Favorite Christmas Cookies to Give as Gifts

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Chocolate Bohemian Cookies

I discovered these a number of years ago.  I just love the way the chocolate and cookie dough melts in your mouth.  These are way up there on the Star Scale for me.  They are very easy to make too.

Here's the recipe:

CHOCOLATE BOHEMIAN CHRISTMAS COOKIES

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
1 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
1 1/4 cup flour
1/8 tsp. salt
1 cup walnuts (chopped fine in a food processor)
6 oz. German sweet chocolate (chopped fine in a food processor)
1 tsp. vanilla

Grind nuts and chocolate together.
Cream shortenings and sugar and mix well.
Add flour and salt alternately with nuts and chocolate. Mix. Add vanilla.
Pour scant teaspoons of dough on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 225 degrees for about 40 minutes or until firm to the touch.
When partially cool you may sprinkle generously with powdered sugar.

  1. Mom used to make these many years ago. She got the recipe from a newspaper. It was an all day affair due to the baking time (and quantities she made). No food processors then so the chocolate had to be ground in a meat grinder alternating small handfuls of nuts & chocolate at a time as the chocolate would jam up the grinder without the nut oils to lube the worm. Moms gone now & I have not made them for a long time but I’m going to try with the food processor. They truly are the best cookie I ever tasted.

  2. I live in a motorhome with only a convection/microwave. The temperature settings are not exact but only has buttons that go from 100, 150, then jumps to 275 before increasing in 25 deg increments so I had to adapt. I baked at 275 for about 24 min checking for firmness and they came out pretty good.
